MISSIONS AND MINISTRIES OF ST. STEPHEN’S UMC
St. Stephen’s UMC participates in over 70 different ministries and missions.  We are always looking for volunteers to help in any way possible.  Contact our church office if you are interested in serving.

 

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
St. Stephen’s offers Sunday School classes for ALL AGES, not just children. 
 
AMPT PRAISE TEAM
During our contemporary service, we have a small group of singers and an audio team that work together to lead the congregation in worship. Currently, we use instrumental tracks, but would love to have a REAL BAND! We are looking for individuals who can play guitar, piano, or drums. 
 
ANGELS ON WHEELS
ANGELS ON WHEELS are Guber Angels. They are volunteers from the church that will provide transportation when a member of our church needs a ride to an appointment.
 
APPALACHIAN SERVICE PROJECT  (A.S.P)
Appalachia Service Project is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia.
*St. Stephen’s partnered with Asbury United Methodist Church (Salisbury, MD) for the first time in 2017.
 
BEN & ROSIE CUBBAGE MINISTRY
Ben and Rosie are missionaries in Tibet. St. Stephen’s supports them. 
 
BIBLE STUDIES
St. Stephen’s offers Bible Studies to help our church family understand the Bible. Studies are offered throughout the year and offered at different times in the day. 
 
CAMP PECOMETH & RETREAT MINISTRIES
Pecometh Camp & Retreat Ministries partners with over 400 churches of the Peninsula Delaware Conference of The United Methodist Church to provide camps, retreats and outdoor programs to persons of all ages and from all walks of life. Pecometh has operated continuously since 1946 on the Chester River near Centreville, Maryland. We are a place where people play, learn and grow for a lifetime.
 
CAMP CRUSADE (CRU)
Their sole basis of beliefs is the Bible, God’s infallible written Word, The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. They believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks.
 
CARD MINISTRY
Our “Card Ministry” consists of writing and sharing a message to the men and women of St. Stephen’s UMC that are shut in or sick. Cards and messages are also send to our Military men and women. 
 
CAROL SING
Our annual Carol Sing brings the church and community together by singing Christmas carols together and dining together as one. The Carol Sing is held in the auditorium of Delmar High School. Everyone is invited back to Camelot Hall, following the Carol Sing, for soup, sandwiches, and cookies. 
 
CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir enriches worship each Sunday by singing in the Sanctuary.
 
CHILDREN & YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
Sunday School is offered for children and youth up to 12th grade. 
 
CHRIST CONNECTIONS
Christ Connections is our youth group for 7th to 12th graders. 
 
CHRISTIAN KITCHEN
Christian Kitchen provides a free lunch to people in need EVERY SATURDAY. 
 
CHRISTIAN SHELTER
Christian Shelter is a temporary, emergency shelter providing safe housing and meals for men, women and children who are homeless.
 
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM (SUNDAY SCHOOL)
The children, young adults and adult Sunday School present a Christmas Program during the Christmas Holidays.
 
CHRYSALIS
Three days of singing, learning, laughing, worshiping and reflecting & praying. Chrysalis strengthens our spiritual lives.
 
CHURCH SOCIALS
Bringing our congregations close together with food and fellowship.
 
COAT DRIVE
St. Stephen’s provides the gift of warmth in the Winter by providing coats to the homeless and the needy. 
 
COMMITTEE ON NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES (CONAM)
The mission of (CONAM) , is to serve God, the creator, while being a resource, advocate, and educational body for Native American Ministries within the Peninsula-Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church.
 
COMMUNITY LOVE LIGHT TREE
Lights are put on a outdoor Christmas Tree in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Proceeds go towards the missions of St. Stephen’s Church. 
 
Crisis Pregnancy Center (Georgetown, DE)
A center dedicated to giving complete up to date and accurate information regarding pregnancy, sexual, health and relationships. 
 
DAY IN THE PARK
St. Stephen’s, alongside other churches, organizations, and members of the town, celebrate the beginning of Summer. In years past, St. Stephen’s has sold homemade ice cream. 
 
DELAWARE FOOD BANK
Their mission is a community free of hunger.
St. Stephen’s offers its parking-lot as a drop-off location. The truck comes the 2nd Monday of each month. Members of the church help with the distribution as a way of giving back to the community. 

 

DELMAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
St. Stephen’s participates in a “Back to School Drive” before school starts back. School supplies and other essential needs are collected. 
 
DELMAR FIRE DEPARTMENT
Supporting our local fire department with donations and spiritual needs.

 

DELMAR MIDDLE & SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
St. Stephen’s participates in a “Back to School Drive” before school starts back. School supplies and other essential needs are collected. 
 
DELMAR NURSING HOME
The nursing home in Delmar is within walking distance of the church. The children of the church visit the nursing home a few times a year with something for the residents. We have taken tissues, Valentine’s cards, and palms for Palm Sunday. 
 
DISCIPLE
DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders.
 
FALL FESTIVAL
Celebrating and sharing the beginning of the Fall Season with our community with bake goods, oyster sandwiches, tractor rides, fire engine rides, yard sale, petting zoo, and spiritual music.
 
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Sharing a movie & popcorn in State Street Park with the community.
 
FELLOWSHIP CIRCLE
United Methodist Women support group reaching out to our members in the name of Jesus.
 
FUNERAL MEALS
Church members provide food for a reception in honor a church member that has past away.
 
GIVING TREE
Gifts from our Church Members goes to a family in need at Christmas.
 
GOLF TOURNAMENT
A mission for our church in bringing our community together by forming teams to play golf in an effort to raise money for the many ministries of our church.
 
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.  Their ministry was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent place to live in dignity and safety.
 
HALO
HALO is a Christ-centered faith based ministry that provides programs and services for the homeless and hurting men, women & children in our community.
 
HAND BELL CHOIR
Members of our church making beautiful music with Hand Bells.
 
HARVEST MINISTRIES
It is a Christian Based Thrift Store. Gives support to the homeless and to the men, women and children in our community.
 
HERITAGE DAY
Sharing our Church Heritage with our Community.
 
HOME OF THE BRAVE (MILFORD, DE)
Their mission is to reduce homelessness among our Military Veteran population.  It is their goal to help our veterans successfully transition into permanent housing and personal independence.
 
JOSHUA HOUSE
Homeless Ministry located in Millsboro, Delaware
 
JOSEPH HOUSE (Salisbury, MD)
Their mission is to help the poor and homeless on the Delmarva Peninsula.
 
KIDZ CHURCH
This is a Sunday School for Pre-K to 6th grade. KIDZ Church is offered during our traditional service in our church hall and allows parents to enjoy the service in our sanctuary. 
 
NEW YEAR’S EVE WATCH
NEW YEAR’S EVE WATCH is a night where Christians can reaffirm their covenant with God with worship and music as the New Year rings in. 
 
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Sharing God’s love with children in need by packing a gift filled shoe box.  Every shoe box delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s amazing love.
 
PHILADELPHIA PENTECOSTAL CHURCH
St. Stephen’s UMC helps the Church feed the homeless.
 
PRAYER CHAIN
This is a group of people that are on a prayer chain to pray for people that are in need.
 
PRAYER GROUP (TUESDAY MORNING)
A group come together every Tuesday morning to pray for the people on our Prayer List and the many issues of the Work and the United Methodist Church.
 
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The shawls are handmade by those in the Prayer Shawl ministry.  They are prayed over, asking God to give the recipient many blessings of courage, strength, and comfort & to be a reminder of God’s presence. Before given to the recipient, they are blessed in a church service in which the entire church prays.
 
RAILROAD CAFE’
The cafe’ is open 4 weekends a year.  The cafe’ is run by the youth of our church. . 
 
RELAY FOR LIFE
Relay is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track.  The event brings communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.
 
SAFE SANCTUARIES
In covenant with The United Methodist Church, we adopted this policy for the prevention of abuse of our children in our church.  Our pledge is to conduct all of our ministries in ways that assure the safety and spiritual growth of all of our children & youth as well as of those who work with them.
 
SALVATION ARMY
The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.  Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
 
SALISBURY URBAN MINISTRIES
Their mission is developing and implementing programs that serve and minister to the needs to impoverish people.
 
SAMARITAN’S PURSE
It is an evangelical Christian humanitarian and organization that provides aid to people in physical need as key part of Christian mission.
 
SECOND SUNDAY OFFERING
The second Sunday offering is an offering given by St. Stephen’s UMC members that is designated to go towards one of the many missions of the church.
 
SPIRITUAL CLEANING FOR THE SOUL
A group of Angel’s cleaning God’s House
 
TEEN CHALLENGE (SEAFORD, DE)
Their purpose is restoring broken lives who have been affected by issues like anger, rebellion, depression, drug/alcohol abuse and other life controlling problems.
 
TENT MINISTRY
Their mission is to deliver Christ-centered leadership training and coaching for communities, classrooms and the Church.  Their vision is to raise up young people with compassion, character and faith in Jesus Christ who have the imagination, moral fiber and tenacity to lead in all walks of life.
 
UNITED METHODIST COMMITTEE OF RELIEF (UMCOR)
Their mission statement compelled by Christ to be a voice of conscience on behalf of the people called Methodist.
 
UNICEF
Provides humanitarian & developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.
 
UNITED WAY
Improves lives by mobilizing power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
 
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)
A specialized form of religious education which focuses on children.  This program is offered in the summer and is made possible by the members of the church.
 
VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION (UMVIM)
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission is designed to provide an official channel whereby Christians, both lay and clergy, may offer their skills and talents for Christian service at home and around the world on short term assignments at their own expense.  Work includes construction & renewing of mission facilities, teaching, conducting Bible studies or Bible School for children, and serving in disaster relief efforts around the world.
 
WALK TO EMMAUS
Experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace & love is revealed to you through other believers.
 
WILDCAT WELLNESS PANTRY
Collecting Food for the needy in the Delmar School District.
 
WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN
Their mission is to provide awareness, education and support to all those who are affected by breast cancer.
 
YOUTH COOKIE BAKE
Christ Connections Youth Group bakes cookies to sell for the Christmas Holiday. Proceeds go to help our youth go to the Annual Youth Rally and to participate in other fun activities.
