Prayer
Why is it important to pray?

1. God’s Word calls us to pray.
God has commanded us to pray. If we are obedient to His will, prayer must be a part of our life in Him.
Matthew 5:44: “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who   persecute you.”
Romans 12:12: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.”
Philippians 4:6: “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God.”
Colossians 4:2: “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, prayer without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.”

2. Jesus prayed regularly.
Matthew 14:22: “And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray…”
Matthew 26:36: “Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.””
Mark 1:35: “In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a desert place, and there he prayed.”
Luke 6:12: “Now during those days, he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God.”

3. Prayer is how we communicate with God.

4. Prayer is ALWAYS available.
Nothing can keep us from approaching God in prayer, except our own choices.

5. Prayer keeps us humble before God.
Humility is a virtue that God desires in us.
Proverbs 11:2: “When pride comes, then comes disgrace; but wisdom is with the humble.”
Proverbs 22:4: “The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.”
Micah 6:8: “He has told you, O mortal, what is good and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

6. Prayer grants us the privilege of experiencing God.

7. Answered prayer is a potential witness.
If our prayers are answered, it can serve as a witness for those who doubt.

8. Prayer strengthens the bond between believers.

9. Prayer can succeed were other means have failed.

10. Prayer fulfills emotional needs.
